Hyundai has always been a car company that prioritizes safety. Its vehicles come with many advanced protection systems, and they are built to safeguard passengers. This is evident from recent crash tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). If you’re looking for a car that will give you excellent peace of mind, Keyes Hyundai goes over the new Hyundai models that were singled out.

Our Safest Hyundai Models

The IIHS is an independent organization aimed at reducing deaths, injuries, and property damage from car crashes, and one way it does this is with carefully designed and comprehensive crash tests. The vehicles that are deemed the safest get awarded with either a Top Safety Pick (TSP) or Top Safety Pick+ (TSP+) designation. These are the seven 2025 Hyundai models that earned the TSP+ rating:

  • Hyundai Elantra
  • Hyundai Sonata
  • Hyundai Kona
  • Hyundai IONIQ 5
  • Hyundai IONIQ 6
  • Hyundai Tucson
  • Hyundai Santa Fe

How Vehicles are Rated

For 2025, the IIHS augmented its criteria for evaluating vehicles, putting more of an emphasis on second-row passengers. In its tests, dummies representing 12-year-old children or small female passengers were placed in the back seats to more realistically assess the risk of injury in an accident. For a car to receive a TSP rating, it would need to be deemed “Acceptable” in this test, and earning the higher “Good” rating would qualify it for a TSP+ label.
