We all know how congested the roadways around Los Angeles can be. And while it certainly pays to drive defensively, it also pays to ensure your car is well insured. At Keyes Hyundai, we want all drivers to be protected, and this guide will help ensure they have the right insurance policies.

Liability

In California – as in most states – liability insurance is the only coverage. This will cover costs related to an injury or property damage if you cause an accident.

Collision

If you hit something – like a telephone pole, for example – a collision policy should cover the damage. It can also give you money for repairs if you’re in an accident with another car, even if it was your fault.

Uninsured Motorist

You never know who’s driving around without even basic liability insurance. If you were to get into an accident with someone like this, and it was their fault, you might be out of luck. But uninsured motorist coverage helps to protect you.

Comprehensive

Comprehensive insurance gives you coverage for things that could happen even if your car doesn’t leave the driveway. This includes vandalism, fire, and theft. Although optional, this insurance is occasionally required when financing or leasing a vehicle.

Guaranteed Asset Protection (GAP)

Guaranteed Asset Protection (GAP) insurance can come in handy when you’re making payments on your car. For example, let’s say it gets totaled in an accident, and the insurance company values it at $8,000. That’s what they will give you for it. But what if you still owe $10,000 to the bank? Unless you have gap insurance, you’ll be on the hook for $2,000.
