Introduced in 2004, the Hyundai Tucson entered its third generation in the 2016 model year with an extensive redesign. That was good news for Downtown Los Angeles SUV shoppers, who saw a great option made even better. The 2017 Hyundai Tucson shares a lot in common with last year's model, but there are some important changes, meaning that a better thing just got... better...er? Keyes Hyundai explores the details and differences.
2017 Hyundai Tucson Details
Coming off a redesign, it should come as no surprise that we saw a lot of the 2017 Hyundai Tucson in the 2016 model. The exterior is untouched, and the interior very nearly so. Trims and powertrains will also be familiar. The base Hyundai Tucson SE gets a 164 horsepower 2.0 L 4-cylinder engine with direct injection, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.
The other three trim levels (the Hyundai Tucson Eco, Sport, and Limited) trade the two-liter engine for a turbocharged engine that displaces 1.6 liters and backs its 175 horsepower with a healthy 195 lb.-ft. of torque. The transmission, a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, is also different on those trims. We suggest taking a close look at optional all-wheel drive, since that also gives you torque vectoring for improved handling.
2017 Hyundai Tucson Safety and Special Features*
Any list of all the great options and standard features should include one other item: safety. The NHTSA has awarded the 2017 Hyundai Tucson its highest safety rating of five stars. For its part, the IIHS has awarded the Hyundai Tucson a Top Safety Pick, thanks to its great performance in crash tests plus its available active safety features.
Some of the new features on the 2017 Hyundai Tucson are minor, like HVAC vents in the center console, a better CODEC for compressed audio files, and treated fabric seats that are stain resistant (if you live out of your car, or if you've got small kids, that last fact may not be so minor). One change is a bigger deal: Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility is available for the first time (for those who choose the Limited trim). That lets you get even more out of the Hyundai Blue Link infotainment system regardless of the smartphone you have.
Buying a 2017 Hyundai Tucson
If you're looking for a compact crossover that's just the right size, the 2017 Hyundai Tucson is just the right SUV at just the right time. While the first year after a redesign usually doesn't bring anything worthy of note, that's not the case here (especially for those of us who like our ride with an extra helping of technology). It's a smart buy. Bring your license, insurance, and any questions you may have to your Hyundai dealership serving Downtown Los Angeles today for a test drive. Keyes Hyundai is located at 5746 Van Nuys Blvd. in Van Nuys, CA, and we look forward to serving you!
